Outdoor Adventure at Piney Point Lighthouse Museum: A Kid's Science STEAM Program

Description

Kids ages 8 to 12 can enjoy four fun-filled days of scientific learning and discovery at beautiful Piney Point Lighthouse Museum. Join our museum staff along, with education coordinator/local biologist Sara Saunders, as we explore museum grounds and learn about the dynamic Potomac River ecosystem.

SCHEDULE -

Day 1: Plant Science/ID Lab, Outdoor Recycled Art & Mini Take-Home Herb Gardening

Day 2: Eek! Bugs!

Day 3: Fishing, Crabbing & Beach Combing

Day 4: Boats, Water Science & Get Wet Day (please bring a towel and a change of clothes)

(Daily events are subject to change without notice due to weather or heat safety concerns)

OPTIONS (only 15 participants per session) -

2 sessions are available - please pick only one session for your child or children (see link to sign up online)

1st Session: Monday, July 8, 2024 - Thursday, July 11, 2024

Times: 9 AM (drop off) to 12 PM (pick up) daily during sessions

Ages: 8 to 12 year olds

Cost: $50 per child

(Discounted opportunities, through the Museums for All program, are available to SNAP or EBT card holders. Please contact our administrative coordinator for more information at sara.saunders@stmaryscountymd.gov)

DETAILS -

All program and activity materials are included.

Parents/Guardians should provide:

-Sunscreen (applied before drop-off)
-Bug spray (applied before drop-off)
-Water bottle
-Hat or other head covering and/or sunglasses
-Recommended - a hand towel for wetting and draping around the neck to stay cool
-Snacks
-July in Southern Maryland can be very HOT, which is why we host our adventure programs during the mornings and monitor conditions/children very closely and adapt programs as needed for comfort and safety. Parents/Guardians are welcome to accompany children throughout the day, especially if children are nervous about being away at a new place.
